Welcome to Day Waterman College

I warmly welcome you to Day Waterman College. We are committed to nurturing every child in our care; instilling in them confidence, a sense of self-worth and a passion for life-long learning. We are interested in the education of the whole child, so that our pupils become thoughtful, confident, articulate, creative and caring individuals.

At Day Waterman College we give our pupils numerous opportunities to discover and nurture individual passions, in turn propelling them into a successful and fulfilling life beyond school. We offer small class sizes, an extensive range of academic subjects taught in modern, well equipped and spacious classrooms as well as a broad range of co-curricular activities. Our facilities are first class; our teachers well qualified and dedicated. As a staff body we aim to inspire, support and celebrate the achievements of all our students. Our students are challenged to achieve excellent results at IGCSE and our record shows that they do just that!

Biography

Duncan Gowen has taught both in the UK and internationally for a total 33 years. He is a graduate of Manchester University where he studied History and Politics. He completed his PGCE at Liverpool University.

He taught for twenty nine years in the United Kingdom at a number of schools including Stowe School and Wells Cathedral School. He held various positions of responsibility including being an academic head of department and a houseparent. Duncan then moved to Kenya to become Academic Deputy Head of Hillcrest International Secondary School. He then become Head of the Secondary School at the British International School of Bucharest before being appointed to the position of Head of Secondary and Acting Principal of the British International School of Casablanca. His last appointment prior to joining Day Waterman College was as Principal of One Planet School in Dodoma Tanzania.

Duncan is a trained and experienced Lead Improvement Partner for the Council of British International Schools and has worked for the Independent School Inspectorate as a Boarding Coordinating Inspector.

Duncan’s interests outside his professional commitments include fly fishing, most sports but golf and cricket especially, cooking and international affairs.
